SS7 and SIGTRAN Workshop (4 days)

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand GSM network on a system-wide level
  • Describe functionality of the SS7 network in GSM environment
  • Describe message routing on MTP and SCCP levels
  • Describe signaling procedures on different protocol levels
  • Understand and explain the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)
  • Understand and explain the most popular SIGTRAN User Adaptation Layers including:
    • MTP3 User Adaptation (M3UA)
    • SCCP User Adaptation (SUA)

Course Overview:

This Signalling System No. 7 in GSM course focuses on signalling between GSM Core Network nodes. The course also describes co-operation between Core Network and Base Station System during procedures like call set-up and location update. All SIGTRAN protocols are discussed, but the emphasis will be on SCTP and M3UA, as the first is mandatory for any SIGTRAN system and the second is chosen by major GSM/UMTS equipment vendors to be implemented in their products.

Pre-requisite for Participants:

The participants should have attended GSM Technology course or should have the equivalent knowledge. Practical experience in GSM would be recommended.

Who Should Attend?

The course is intended for experienced network engineers, network tuning staff and anyone with network experience who needs in depth technical knowledge on functionalities of GSM signalling.

Course Duration:

4-day instructor-led training.
