
Course Objectives:
After completing this “DWDM and Optical Networking” course, participants will be able to:
- Understand technologies and concepts that make DWDM and optical network, including DWDM OADMs, Optical Amplifiers, Cross Connects, and components
- Explain advanced DWDM Network designs and Engineering
- Design and evaluate optical components in a DWDM network
- Learn about the effects of noise in signal propagation, especially from OSNR and BER perspectives
- Design optical amplifier-based links
- Learn how to design optical links based on power budget, dispersion, and non-linearity
- Design optical links based on OSNR
- Classify and design DWDM networks based on size and performance
- Identify varying test and measurement parameters in DWDM networks and optical systems
- Understand the migratory path toward an OTN
- Understand optical networking in the metro and access networks
- Know where optics are today and where optical technology is headed in the near future
Course Overview:
This is a 5-day instructor-led training that incorporates hands-on exercises on optical fiber network.
Practical Demonstration on the following will be covered:
- Different types of Optical Fiber Cables
- Handling of Connectors, Pigtail and Patch cords
- Fusion Splicing
- Introduction to Visual Fault Locator, Continuity Tester, Optical Source and Optical Power Meter
- Optical power measurement and OPM calibration
- Insertion loss Calculation with one jumper, Two Jumpers and three Jumpers
- A bouquet of OTDR hands on exercises like Introduction, Parameter setting, Testing, Getting Trace, Analyzing Trace and Troubleshooting
Pre-Requisite for Participants:
This course is an advance level course. As such, participants should have working knowledge of optical fiber and SDH.
