4G Wireless Technology

Course Objectives:

This is a 3-day course that will provide an up-to-date information on 4G LTE/LTE-Advanced technology and the corresponding 3GPP standards. Aspects of HSPA+ and HSPA long term evolution will be described. Key features of the 4G wireless technology will be covered. Multiple antenna technology including Coordinated Multi-Point will be discussed. In addition, topics like 2G, 3G and 4G convergence (converged or single RAN), small cells, heterogeneous networks and integration with WiFi will be elaborated on.

After attending this course, participants will have a good knowledge of:

  1. Evolution from 3GPP UMTS and HSPA to HSPA+ and LTE/LTE-Advanced.
  2. LTE/LTE-Advanced deployment and rollout strategies and its relationship with already-deployed 2G and 3G networks.
  3. Converged/Single RAN
  4. New spectrum allocation and spectrum re-farming.
  5. Indoor and outdoor small and macro cell deployments


Pre-Requisite for Participants:

A strong knowledge of wireless communication systems is required. Experience with 2G or 3G radio technologies is needed.
